Lake Tarpon

Lake Tarpon

Lake Tarpon bass fishing is famous and for years the lake held the state record for largemouth with a 19.6 pound bass that was caught by Riley Witt, who used a live eel for bait.
Nearly nine miles end to end, there is lots of fishing on Lake Tarpon, from deep water structure to shallow grass beds. And it's not only a bass lake. Lake Tarpon has a thriving speck population, as well as a variety of panfish.

It doesn't matter what time of year you fish Lake Tarpon, as it is good all year. It is the perfect winter destination and in fact, that is the best time to catch the largest fish of the year. Using live, wild shiners, we fish the grass beds, often slow-trolling the big minnows. 8, 10, 12 pound and even larger bass are common and many a bass angler can claim he caught his biggest bass ever on Lake Tarpon. The other great think about Lake Tarpon is it is located so close to the Gulf and area attractions. Just a skip over to historic Tarpon Springs, home of great Greek cuisine and sponge diving exhibits, shopping and a sea aquarium.
Tampa and Bush Gardens is just minutes away, as is Clearwater Beach. Historic Fort Desoto is within 30 minutes and Weeki Wachee is about an hour north.
Of course Disney, Universal, MGM and the other Orlando attractions are within easy reach of Lake Tarpon, just a little over an hours' drive.
